the u.s. coast guard is searching for two adults and two children that are missing off the coast of the san mateo county. tara. >> reporter: with each passing minute, the chances of the coast guard finding these people alive obviously diminishes. the temperature of the water where they believe they are is in the low 50s. if we take a look at the map we can zero in on where they were last seen. it was 50 miles southwest of santa cruz. a fleet of boats, helicopters and air national guard are scouring the water including two children under the age of eight. they called in arting their boat was taking on water. they did not have any life rafts or survival suits on board. within an hour they abandoned their boat and trying to make a raft from a cooler and life preserver ring. that was the last time officials heard from them. their craft ran into strong winds and rough seas and warnings had been out all weekend. we don't know the identity of those in the lost parties where they started their trip or
